The 2006 Cecil Land Use Forums were organized by local civic organizations and smart-growth groups, in order to

  • Elevate discussion on Cecil County land use issues

  • Bring people and ideas together

  • Empower citizens through organization

  • Create information and action networks

  • Build an alliance for positive change in Cecil County

The forums were meant to bring new information to bear on concerns about overcrowded schools, congested roads, overtaxed water and wastewater facilities, increasing crime, increasing property taxes, loss of open space and wildlife habitat, and the departure of agricultural businesses. The forums were organized to help us, as citizens, better understand what is happening to Cecil County land, what tools we have available to regulate growth, what new tools we may need, what the policies of our elected officials are, and what we can do as citizens to take control of the county growth process.

Four Cecil Land Use Forums were held in 2006:

  • Forum 1, held on January 9, on recognizing the problems

  • Forum 2, held on April 26, on indentifying solutions

  • Forum 3, held on September 7, a county commissioner candidates' forum on land use issues

  • Forum 4, held on October 27, on coming to grips with growth
